Download products from BigCommerce
Overview
Find out how to download products from BigCommerce to Cin7 Omni.
Products are the goods your business buys or manufactures and sells.
And, as your market changes and business grows, you’ll add new products to your inventory. If you create new products in BigCommerce, you can use your BigCommerce integration to download them to Cin7 Omni and keep your product catalogs in sync.
When you download products, Omni breaks your BigCommerce product catalog into three groups:
Mapped products
Unmapped, mappable products
Unmapped, unmappable products
A mapped product already exists in BigCommerce and Omni. A mapping has already been created, too, between its BigCommerce and Omni versions. When you download products from BigCommerce, these products are ignored.
An unmapped, mappable product already exists in BigCommerce and Omni. But a mapping has not been created between its BigCommerce and Omni versions. When you download products from BigCommerce, mappings are created for these products. Find out more about mapping BigCommerce and Omni products.
And finally, an unmapped, unmappable product only exists in BigCommerce – these are your new products. When you download products from BigCommerce, a matching Omni product is created for each new product. A mapping between the BigCommerce and Omni versions is created too, so their sales, stock levels, and other details will sync.
If you create new products in Omni, upload products to BigCommerce instead.
Download products
Before downloading products from BigCommerce:
In your BigCommerce integration settings, turn on Products, configure your Price Fields, and optionally enable Download Product Images.
Review how BigCommerce products with and without variants are downloaded (see below).
Keep in mind that what BigCommerce calls variants Omni calls options, and while BigCommerce products may have no variants, Omni products always have at least one default option.
Now download your products from BigCommerce:
Log in to Cin7 Omni.
From the Integrations menu in the navigation, open your BigCommerce integration.
On the Product Status tile, select Download Products.
Open the Download Products tab.
Select Import Products Created Since Last Import.
-
You’ll be shown the total number of BigCommerce products that are either:
Unmapped and mappable, for which Omni will create mappings, or
Unmapped and unmappable, for which Omni will create matching products and mappings.
-
Select Next, which takes you to the Products Not Matched tab, where you’ll be shown a summary (note that, at this stage, mappings have been created for any unmapped, mappable products):
New Products is the number of new (that is, unmapped, unmappable) BigCommerce products, for which Omni will create matching products and mappings.
New Product Options is the number of variants across the new (that is, unmapped, unmappable) BigCommerce products, for which Omni will create matching product options and mappings.
Existing Price Options Linked is the number of new (that is, unmapped, mappable) BigCommerce products, for which Omni has created mappings (find out more about mapping products).
Review the summary and sample. Then select Next. You’ll be taken to the Products to Import tab.
Optionally, if you want to download only a subset of new BigCommerce products, select Download Products to Import. A spreadsheet will download. Remove from the spreadsheet the rows of products you don’t want to download. Then, in Omni, select Choose File and upload the edited spreadsheet.
Select Next. You’ll be taken to the Create New Products Tab.
Optionally, select Import Product Images to download your BigCommerce products’ images to Omni.
Select Import New Products.
You’ve finished downloading your new BigCommerce products. Now, how each product was downloaded depends on whether it had variants. Here’s how BigCommerce products with and without variants are downloaded:
Products without variants
Omni products always have at least one default option.
When you download a BigCommerce product without variants, Omni creates a product with only the default option. The BigCommerce product’s details are downloaded to the Omni product as follows:
BigCommerce product | Cin7 Omni product and default option |
Product Name | Product Name |
Description | Description (only shown if Show Website Options is enabled in your product settings) |
Image (first three only) | Image 1, Image 2, Image 3 |
Default Price | Retail |
Cost | Cost |
Sale Price | Special Price |
SKU | Style Code (of product) and Code (of default option) |
Weight | Weight (of default option) |
Products with variants
When you download a BigCommerce product with variants, Omni creates a new product with an option for each variant.
In order to create the product options, Omni uses the Variant Options data of the BigCommerce product: it uses each Name as an Option Label and each corresponding Value as Option Values of the respective Option Label.
Then the details of the BigCommerce product and its variants are downloaded to the Omni product and its options as follows:
BigCommerce product | BigCommerce product variant | Cin7 Omni product | Cin7 Omni product option |
Product Name | Product Name
Description | Description (only shown if Show Website Options is enabled in your product settings)
Image (first three only) | Image 1, Image 2, Image 3 (2 and 3 only shown if Show Website Options is enabled in your product settings)
SKU | Style Code | ||
Sale Price | Special Price
Default Price | Retail | ||
SKU | Code |
Download new variants
If you create new variants of a BigCommerce product that’s already mapped to an Omni product, you must delete the product’s mappings and redownload the product and its variants:
Log in to Cin7 Omni.
From the Integrations menu in the navigation, select your BigCommerce integration.
On the Product Status tile of your BigCommerce integration’s dashboard, select View Mapped Products. You’ll see a list of your product mappings.
Delete the product’s current mappings – don’t select Delete All, which would delete all mappings.
Now download the product again (see above) – when you download the product, the old mappings will be recreated at step 7, and the new variants will be downloaded and mapped at step 12.
