Two-factor authentication (2FA)
Overview
Find out about two-factor authentication (2FA), how to set up and log in with 2FA, and how to troubleshoot common 2FA issues.
Two-factor authentication (2FA) is an important second layer of security that requires two forms of identification to log into Cin7 Omni.
When you first log in to Omni, you must set up 2FA by downloading an authenticator app or password manager to a trusted device, like your computer or phone, and authorizing it. Then, when logging in to Omni, you’ll enter your username, your password, and a verification code – the “second factor” – generated via your authenticator app.
You’ll also be given ten recovery codes when setting up 2FA. If you lose access to your authenticator app, you can use a recovery code to log in. Otherwise you can have your account reset and set up 2FA again.
You can choose to verify your browser too, so that a verification code is needed only once every thirty days.
Benefits of 2FA
By requiring two forms of identification, 2FA significantly reduces the risk of unauthorized account access. This not only boosts your account security but potentially saves you time and money by reducing the chances of security breaches.
Set up 2FA
1. Choose an authenticator
First, download an authenticator app or password manager to a computer or phone that only you can access, and familiarize yourself with the application’s instructions.
Most popular authenticator apps or password managers will work, but you may have certain business constraints, such as not having access to mobile devices or browser extensions.
Here’s a guide to help you choose the right authenticator:
Authenticator | Mobile app | Desktop app | Web app | Browser extension | Free plan |
Authy | Yes | No | No | No | Yes |
Google Authenticator | Yes | No | No | No | Yes |
Microsoft Authenticator | Yes | No | No | No | Yes |
LastPass | Yes | No | Yes | Yes | Yes |
1Password | Yes | Yes | Yes | Yes | No |
Authenticator | No | No | No | Yes | Yes |
2. Authorize your device
Then authorize your device – optionally, watch this video on authorizing your device, otherwise follow these instructions:
Log in to Cin7 Omni: https://go.cin7.com/. You’ll be prompted to configure 2FA.
Select Configure It Here (if you can’t see this button, skip this step).
On the configure page, scan the QR code (or type the 32-character code) into your authenticator app, which will generate a one-time verification code.
Type the verification code into the Verification Code field in Cin7 Omni.
Select Verify.
-
Save the ten red recovery codes somewhere safe.
If you lose access to your authenticator app, you can log in with a recovery code, and if you also lose your recovery codes, you must reset your account (see below).
Select Continue to Login.
You’ve finished setting up 2FA. Now find out how to log in with 2FA.
Log in with 2FA

Recovery codes: log in, generate
If you’ve temporarily lost access to your authenticator app, you can log in with a recovery code:
Log in to Cin7 Omni.
Select Log In with Recovery Codes.
Type one recovery code into the Recovery Code field.
Select Log In.
If you’re running out of recovery codes (or you’ve lost your recovery codes) but have access to your authenticator app, you should generate new codes:
Log in to Cin7 Omni.
From the user menu, select Your Profile.
Next to Two-Factor Auth, select Manage.
Select Generate New Codes.
From the dialog, select OK.
Save the ten red recovery codes somewhere safe.
Close the browser tab.
And if you’ve permanently lost access to your authenticator app, ask an admin to reset your account as soon as possible (see below).
Reset your account
If you lose access to your authenticator app and recovery codes, ask an admin to reset your account:
Log in to Cin7 Omni as an administrator.
From the user menu, select Users.
Select the user.
Under Two-Factor Authentication, select Reset Two-Factor Settings.
After having been reset, your account will have 2FA turned on and you must configure 2FA the next time you log in (see above).
