Stock On Hand Reconciliation runs above Historic Stock Valuation - how do you clear the leftover?

David Bras

Hoping someone here has cracked this. Our Stock On Hand Reconciliation sits above the Historic Stock Valuation every month. We've chased most of it down - the two reports agree on physical quantities, our costs match to within ~1%, and dispatch-before-invoice timing explains the part that moves around.

What's left is a value-only balance from our go-live opening stock load (Nov 2021), carried forward in the reconciliation's cumulative roll and never washing out. The physical stock is right - it's old opening value, not a quantity problem.

A few questions for anyone who's dealt with this:

  1. Is there any report that gives stock valuation at SKU or location level on the reconciliation basis (totals to the reconciliation closing, not the Historic Stock Valuation)? Can't find one, so I can't pin down which products carry it.
  2. Has anyone corrected an opening-balance over-valuation like this — value only, without changing quantities or spreading an arbitrary cost change across SKUs? What did you use?
  3. How do you treat the ongoing reconciliation-vs-valuation difference at month-end — pick one as your reported figure, book a periodic adjustment, or just document it?

Any pointers appreciated — happy to share more detail.

Thanks!
