WMS - Ability to edit automatic stage change after "Picking"

Phil Sauve

The Packing stage would ideally include rates with the shipping integrations. We use Shipstation, and it only shows services within the integration. Not being able to see rates is a nonstarter for our operations, so we still need to dispatch orders from Shipstation.

Alternatively, if the above isn't possible, the next best scenario would be the ability to change the stage that is automatically set after the “Picking” stage. Currently the stage automatically is set to “Ready To Pack - WMS” when picking is completed. Being able to change this would allow us to set automatically set the stage to “Fully Picked” and then move to Shipstation to dispatch the order.

Dispatching in “Packing” stage doesn't work well as it exists now.

we've hit the same wall, and I'd argue the root cause sits one level deeper than the stage-after-picking setting.

The ShipStation integration only exports orders at the Fully Picked stage, but the WMS workflow never enters that stage - orders move Release To Pick - WMS → Release To Pack - WMS → Dispatched. So the integration's only trigger is a stage that Cin7's own WMS bypasses entirely. Any WMS + ShipStation customer ends up doing manual overrides just to get orders across.

Our current workaround: bulk-move orders into Fully Picked to trigger the sync, then bulk-move them back out so the pick wave can run. Every wave, every day. (Our need is slightly earlier in the flow than Phil's — we bulk-print labels at the start of the pick wave rather than per order at pack, so we need orders in ShipStation at Release To Pick - WMS.)

Here's the thing though: this is clearly not a platform limitation. Per Starshipit's Cin7 Omni documentation, their integration pulls orders through Cin7's API and lets you choose which stages trigger import - including typing in custom stages like the WMS ones. So Cin7's API already serves orders at any stage. The Fully Picked restriction exists only in the ShipStation connector.

The fix that covers both use cases in this thread: make the ShipStation export stage configurable. ShipStation already supports custom status mapping on their side, so the only missing piece is Cin7's ShipStation endpoint serving orders at stages other than Fully Picked.

I've raised this with Cin7 support as well. If this affects you too, please comment or upvote - it needs to be visible as a pattern, this is a fundamental issue in the integration on cin7 side.
