Picking Single-items within Multiple Orders in WMS

Khalid Ali

Hello CIN7 Community,

I wanted to raise an issue that I believe many of us may encounter when picking for multiple orders in WMS. While CIN7’s WMS provides great visual cues when picking for multiple-item orders, there's a gap when it comes to single-item orders.

The Issue:

When picking for multiple orders (whether it's 3, 4, or more), the system does a great job of showing visual cues for items that belong to orders with multiple items. This helps to quickly assign the right items to the right orders.

However, when picking for single-item orders, CIN7 does not provide the same visual cue or notification. This becomes a challenge, especially when there are several orders and multiple SKUs being picked.

Example Scenario:

Imagine you're picking for several orders at once, and one of those orders only needs one unit of a SKU (which could be one of many SKUs with varying quantities). Let’s say the remaining orders need multiple units of the same SKU.

In this situation:

  • When picking the items for the orders that need multiple units, the system gives clear indications of which order the items belong to.
  • But for the single-item orders, CIN7 doesn’t display the same visual cue, which forces you to manually search through the orders to find where that one unit belongs. This slows down the picking process significantly.

Why This Matters:

The problem isn’t specific to just certain orders, quantities, or SKUs. It’s random and can happen in any scenario—whether there are just 3 orders or 10, whether you're dealing with 1 SKU with 10 pieces or 100 SKUs with 1 piece each. The issue becomes more pronounced when picking large quantities or handling a mix of bulk and single-item orders.

This process of manually identifying where a single item belongs is time-consuming and reduces the overall efficiency of picking. It would be a huge time-saver if there were visual cues or notifications for single-item orders in the same way there are for multi-item orders.

My Request:

I’m bringing this up to see if others in the community face the same challenge. If this resonates with you, I would appreciate your support in getting this feature addressed. Adding visual cues for single-item orders would dramatically improve efficiency, reduce manual searching, and enhance the picking process for everyone.

Let’s work together to get this noticed and improve the system!

Are you talking about assigning orders to totes when picking and then picking and putting items into those totes?

Yes, if the order assigned to a tote contains two or more pieces of an item, the system will indicate the appropriate tote for placement. However, if the order includes only one piece of an item, the system will not specify which tote it belongs to.

Thanks Khalid, Appreciate you may not want to contact or give out contact details, but I would be interested to see how you use the tote function. A lot of our orders are single items and hence the use of the totes is not helpful at all.
