Link and unlink contacts (QuickBooks Online)
Overview
Find out how to link Cin7 Omni contacts to QuickBooks Online contacts before syncing (uploading) their transactions, and how to unlink Cin7 Omni contacts from QuickBooks Online contacts you’ve merged or inactivated.
To sync (upload) a transaction from Cin7 Omni to QuickBooks Online, you must have linked the transaction’s contact (customer or supplier) to a contact in QuickBooks Online. You’ll get an error if the contact’s not linked.
You can link a contact in two ways:
upload and link a new QuickBooks Online contact
link an existing QuickBooks Online contact.
Once you’ve linked a Cin7 Omni contact to a QuickBooks Online contact, you can start syncing their transactions. You won’t need to link them again.
If you’ve merged or inactivated a linked contact in QuickBooks Online, you need to unlink the Cin7 Omni contact and link it to another QuickBooks Online contact to sync new transactions.
Link contacts
To link a contact, you must have a transaction for that contact ready to sync (upload) to QuickBooks Online.
Log in to Cin7 Omni.
From the Accounting menu in the navigation, select your QuickBooks Online integration.

to link a customer, open the Sales tab and Customers subtab
to link a supplier, open the Purchases tab and Suppliers subtab.
An unlinked contact has “No linked contact” in the Linked Contact column. Decide whether to upload and link a new QuickBooks Online contact or to link an existing QuickBooks Online contact:
To upload and link a new QuickBooks Online contact, select the unlinked contact (or multiple unlinked contacts) and then select Upload. The contact will be created in QuickBooks Online and linked.
To link an existing QuickBooks Online contact, search for and select the contact from the list in the Search column. The contact will be linked.
Now you can start syncing the contact’s transactions.
Unlink contacts
If you’ve merged or inactivated a linked contact in QuickBooks Online, you need to unlink the Cin7 Omni contact and link it to another QuickBooks Online contact to continue syncing (uploading) their transactions.
To unlink a contact, you must have a transaction for that contact ready to sync to QuickBooks Online.
Log in to Cin7 Omni.
From the Accounting menu in the navigation, select your QuickBooks Online integration.

to unlink a supplier, open the Purchases tab and Suppliers subtab.
Select the contact (or contacts) to unlink.
Select Unlink. Then confirm on the dialog.
Now you must link this contact to another. Either upload and link a new QuickBooks Online contact, or link an existing contact (see above).
Alternatively, you can restore the customer or vendor in QuickBooks Online.
FAQs
Can I download contacts from QuickBooks Online to Cin7 Omni?
No, you can’t download contacts from QuickBooks Online to Cin7 Omni. But you can export contacts from QuickBooks Online and import contacts from a spreadsheet into Cin7 Omni, and then link Cin7 Omni and QuickBooks Online contacts (see above).
Can I upload changes to Cin7 Omni contacts to linked QuickBooks Online contacts?
Yes, you can upload changes to contacts. You still must have a transaction for that contact ready to sync. Then, open the Sales > Customers (or the Purchases > Suppliers) tab on the QuickBooks Online dashboard in Cin7 Omni. Select the contacts you’ve updated, and then select Upload.
