Overview

Connect your QuickBooks Desktop Enterprise account to Cin7 Omni to allow seamless order and inventory synchronization.

QuickBooks Desktop Enterprise  (known as QuickBooks Enterprise) is Intuit's desktop accounting software for medium to large businesses.

Cin7 Omni's QuickBooks Desktop Integration is only supported in the United States.

Integrating QuickBooks Enterprise with Cin7 Omni will allow you to:

  • Import Cin7 Omni Purchase Orders as Bills

  • Import Cin7 Omni Sales Orders as Invoices

  • Import Cin7 Omni Credit Notes and Vendor Credit Notes

  • Import Cost of Goods Sold (COGS)

  • Synchronize inventory values (not quantities)

Cin7 Omni's integration has multiple settings that allow for detailed control of how Cin7 Omni interacts with QuickBooks Enterprise to suit your specific accounting setup.

Import transactions

When Cin7 Omni imports a transaction to QuickBooks Enterprise it creates a Draft. Whilst a transaction is a Draft in QuickBooks Desktop Enterprise, you can re-import any changes made to that transaction. For more information see Reimporting Transactions to QuickBooks Enterprise.

Cin7 Omni cannot update transactions after you have approved them in QuickBooks Desktop Enterprise. If you need to make a change after approval, we recommend you manually update the transaction in both QuickBooks Desktop Enterprise and Cin7 Omni.

Do you import automatically?

Importing transactions to QuickBooks Desktop Enterprise can be completed with a few clicks.

Due to the way the web connector works, it is not possible to automate the import of accounting transactions. However there are a few good reasons not to do this anyway:

  • It provides an opportunity to match contacts in Cin7 Omni with contacts in QuickBooks Desktop Enterprise carefully and accurately.

  • It encourages a level of scrutiny of the data that is imported, preventing unchecked errors building over time.

Setup and use

Connecting to Cin7 Omni is a simple case of following some on screen steps, explained in Connecting QuickBooks Enterprise to Cin7 Omni.

Once the two systems have been connected, you will need to configure Cin7 Omni to work correctly with your QuickBooks Enterprise integration.

Once connected we recommend you test the connection by importing a few transactions, detailed in Testing your QuickBooks Desktop Enterprise Connection.

Once the connection has been set up and tested, transactions can begin to be imported. For information on how each import works, see our Integrating Cin7 Omni with QuickBooks Desktop  documentation.

There is some general good practice for inventory accounting that we recommend for our users, and this can be found in the General Accounting Settings  section.

FAQs

Do you sync inventory values with those in QuickBooks Desktop Enterprise?

Cin7 Omni works completely separately from QuickBooks' inventory - and should be used instead of tracking inventory in QuickBooks.

Does your integration work with hosted versions of QuickBooks Desktop Enterprise?

This can vary depending on your setup, the main requirement is that QuickBooks Web Connector can run on the same server as your hosted QuickBooks Enterprise software and is accessible to you.

Is the Cin7 Omni integration secure? Do I need a VPN?

Cin7 Omni integrates with your desktop software and uses the Intuit-built Web Connector to connect to your QuickBooks Desktop Enterprise Account. This removes the need for any VPN and maintains the same integration security you get when using QuickBooks Desktop Enterprise itself.
