Set up Afterpay

Set up Afterpay

Overview

Afterpay is a POS Payment service that allows buyers to pay for their purchases in installments at no additional cost.

There is some setup required before you can use Afterpay and Cin7 Omni POS.

Additional charges apply for this integration - please contact Cin7 Omni support for more information.

Set up Cin7 Omni

First, add some configuration options to Cin7 Omni.

  1. Whilst logged in as an Administrator click on your username, top right, then click Settings.

  2. Click on POS Payments Setup.

  3. Change the Afterpay dropdown to Yes. Enter in the Merchant Name and Merchant ID that you have obtained from Afterpay.

  4. Click Save at the bottom of the page to save all changes.

Link Afterpay to a payment method

Second, link your Afterpay setup to a specific payment method. This means that when you click 'Afterpay', for instance, Cin7 Omni will know to push payment information to Afterpay. For more information about how to add payment methods see Setting up POS Payments.

  1. Whilst logged in as an Administrator click on your username, top right, then click Settings.

  2. Click on POS Payments Setup.

  3. Click Add New Option.

  4. Set Method to Afterpay. From the PIN pad dropdown, select Afterpay.

  5. Click Save at the bottom of the page to save these settings.

Create POS registers

Finally, you must set up a POS register for each POS device that will be accepting Afterpay as a form of payment within your sales.

  1. Whilst logged in as an Administrator click on your username, top right, then click Settings.

  2. Click on POS Register Setup.

  3. Click Create New.

  4. Enter the Register Code from the POS register in the Register Code field. In the Location field, enter a user-friendly name of your choice that will be used to identify this terminal. You can choose whatever you like.

  5. From the Terminal Type drop-down, select Afterpay. Enter the "Device Name" and "Device Secret" that will be specific to this POS register. The "Device Name" and "Device Secret" will be obtained from Afterpay. Click Create to create the setting.

  6. Click Save from the bottom of the page to save settings.

Repeat this process for each of the POS registers in your company.

You can now login to the POS while using the registration code you had specified within the POS Register setup settings page. If you don’t log in to the POS using the same register code, the connection to Afterpay will not be authorized.

Once logged in to POS with the correct registration code and you attempt to process your first Afterpay payment, the Afterpay Device Name, and Device Secret will be activated. Upon activation, the same device name and device secret cannot be reactivated meaning only that the POS register can make use of the specified device name and device secret.

Use Afterpay with Cin7 Omni

Processing a Sale

Make a sale as you usually would.
When you press the Payment button associated with Afterpay in your POS interface, you will be asked to enter the customer's Afterpay barcode. Upon doing so, the transaction will be authorized and the sale will be registered within the customers Afterpay account.

The customer would then have to pay the amount they owe to Afterpay in increments based on their terms and conditions with Afterpay. The merchant (Cin7 Omni’s customer) would then receive their share of the payment from Afterpay. A receipt will be printed from Cin7 Omni's POS (depending on your receipt setup)

Restrictions

A customer's Afterpay barcode can only be used once, that is, the same barcode cannot be used in a second transaction.

Afterpay can only be used as a form of payment within your local currency.

Process a refund

Upon doing a refund for an order that was fully paid or partially paid for using Afterpay, you can only refund the amount from that order that was paid for with Afterpay, no more no less. - This is essentially the fundamental rule behind all instances where you are to process a refund for an order that is associated with an Afterpay payment.

Restrictions

  1. The Afterpay amount must be refunded before any other payment method.

  2. You cannot refund an Afterpay payment through another payment method.

  3. You cannot use Afterpay to process a Cash Out. In addition to this rule, if you try to process a sale with a product such as ‘Petty Cash’, this will be considered as a Cash-Out hence you won’t be able to use Afterpay as a payment.

  4. You cannot do a partial refund of an amount that was paid for using Afterpay. You must refund the full Afterpay amount.

  5. An Afterpay amount that has been refunded, cannot be removed from a transaction.

Process an exchange

If doing an exchange for a product that is of higher value than the product which is being returned, you won’t be able to pay the difference using Afterpay.

If doing an exchange for a product that is of lesser value than the product which is being returned, the amount that was paid using Afterpay must be refunded first before any other payment method.

The same fundamental rule of processing refunds also applies when doing returns for an exchanged item. (You can only refund the amount from that order that was paid for with Afterpay, no more no less).

FAQs

Can I return an item in-store that has been bought online and paid with Afterpay?

Currently, any order made in Shopify and paid with Afterpay can be returned to a store with POS that has had Afterpay set up. We don't currently support other integrations at this stage.
