COGS Breakdown report
Overview
Find out how to reconcile your cost of goods sold (COGS) in Cin7 Omni and your accounting platform with the COGS Breakdown report.
Cost of goods sold (COGS) is the net carrying cost of the goods sold and returned.
For an individual sales order or credit note, COGS is the sum of the landed costs of the units dispatched or received in that transaction. For a particular time period, COGS is the net amount of the individual COGS of sales orders and credit notes invoiced during that period.
You must report your COGS accurately. To ensure you do, Cin7 Omni provides the COGS Breakdown report. This report breaks down the transactions that factor into your COGS for a given period, enabling you to find and fix anomalies and reconcile your COGS in Omni with your COGS in Xero and QuickBooks Online.
Open and set up the report
Before using the COGS Breakdown report, re-generate your COGS to ensure they’re up to date. Find out how to generate COGS and what transactions factor into COGS.
Then, open and set up the report:
Log in to Cin7 Omni.
From the navigation, open Insights.
From the navigation, open Standard Reports.
Under Finance, open COGS Breakdown—if you can’t see the report, find out how to install new reports.
Set the time period (Start Date and End Date).
Select Search.
Each row in the report is a sales order or credit note that was either invoiced or dispatched during the selected time period. You shouldn’t need to change the default setup, which is:

Review the report
Review accounting statuses
In the Accounting Invoice Status column, check that the status of each transaction is Imported or Do Not Import. Omni will only calculate COGS on transactions with one of these two statuses.
Review each transaction’s COGS
In the COGS column, check that each sales order has positive COGS and each credit note has negative COGS. If the value is blank or $0.00, then COGS have not been generated for that transaction.
Compare total revenue
Confirm your sales revenue in Omni is in sync with Xero or QuickBooks Online.
Log in to Xero or QuickBooks Online and find your sales revenue for the relevant period. Then compare that value to the Brand Total of the Sales column in the COGS Breakdown report in Omni. They should match.
Compare total COGS
Finally, confirm your COGS in Omni is synced with Xero or QuickBooks Online.
Log in to Xero or QuickBooks Online and find the COGS journal for the relevant period—if you record COGS in more than one account, you must find the journal entry for each. Then compare the value of that journal entry (or the total of all) to the Grand Total of the COGS column in the COGS Breakdown report in Omni.
