Calculate US sales tax (QuickBooks Online)

Calculate US sales tax (QuickBooks Online)

Overview

Find out how Cin7 Omni uses QuickBooks Online to automatically calculate United States sales tax (US only).

Tax is a liability attached to the sale of goods and services and payable to the government.

And QuickBooks Online can automatically calculate sales tax for businesses in the United States. To make calculating sales tax easy, you can configure Cin7 Omni to automatically download the right tax rate from QuickBooks Online for each transaction.

Cin7 Omni will download the tax rate for each transaction with a (a) Delivery Postal Code and (b) Delivery State/Region. It will show the downloaded tax rate in the Alternative Tax Rate field on the transaction. Don’t override theAlternative Tax Ratefield. If you do, Cin7 Omni won’t re-downloaded the right tax rate.

If the customer is picking up their order, select Switch to Customer Pick-up (under Delivery Address) on the sales order after entering the Contact information and before saving the sales order. The address of the sales branch will be used as the Delivery Address and to calculate the tax rate.

To automate US sales tax, you must be in the United States and have set up automated sales tax in QuickBooks Online. You can download US sales tax from QuickBooks Online for backend orders only, not ecommerce; but you can configure your QuickBooks Online integration to download US sales tax from your ecommerce integrations  instead.

To exempt certain contacts from sales tax altogether, open the contact in Cin7 Omni and set Tax Rate to Exempt and select Save.
